Explore Too

There are a number of different tools that you can try to use for exploring, such as Google Earth, Google Maps and Street View. Google Earth can be used for learning about various things around the world, while Google Maps is useful for planning trips. Street View can be especially helpful for architects, engineers and other construction and design professionals who are looking to get a 360-degree view and see what something looks like in person.

After you decide which tool or technology you want to focus on, it’s important to understand how your privacy settings work. Some of these tools are free to use, but not all of them share your information with partners or collect visitor data. Before you begin exploring, read the terms of service as well as the privacy policy to ensure your information remains safe and that your rights remain protected. When I first started actively exploring my environment with VR and AR tools, I liked to use InceptionVR and HoloTour by DeviantArt. Both of these were augmented reality applications that allowed me to share my environment online so others could see it as well. This was super exciting for me at the time because I was able to share my architecture sketches from home on social media! Finally, there are a number of other technologies you could try out for exploring your environment such as Google Earth, Street View and even Snapchat (fun fact: I did a LOT of traveling with the help of Snapchat). Don't forget that if you're an architect, engineer or designer working on a project in India or an emerging economy you might also want to check out CASA's Virtual Rural School extension. We found it has a similar interface and is also free to use. The only difference is that in addition to seeing a 3D model of a building, you also get information on poverty levels by region.
